BACOLOD City – At least 15 homes caught fire in Barangay Zone 1, Murcia, Negros Occidental yesterday, April 14.
The fire started around 7:10 a.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The fire quickly spread as the homes were mostly made of light materials.
Barangay Zone 1 captain Nerissa Jimenea said about 16 families have temporarily taken shelter at the Murcia gymnasium.
It took more than an hour before the blaze was put out by responding firefighters.
No casualties were reported.
Based on initial eyewitness accounts, the blaze was allegedly caused by burning trash left unattended.
The cost of the damages has yet to be verified, and the investigation is ongoing./PN
