KALIBO, Aklan – Overall, there are 151,429 enrollees in 471 schools in Aklan for School Yyear 2020-2021.
These are a little lower compared to the 156,490 enrollees a year ago, according to the Department of Education (DepEd) Aklan.
Aklan private schools posted a 25 percent decrease in enrollment – 19,424 enrollees in 93 private schools, considerably lower than the 26,001 learners in them last year.
A total of 756 learners enrolled in kindergarten compared to the previous year’s 1,469.
In the elementary level, the total number of learners reached 3,744 – down from 5,802 enrollment last year.
DepEd-Aklan’s data further showed 14,924 registered in junior and senior high schools, down from 18,730 last year.
As for the public schools, the education department noted a 1.16 percent increase in enrollment in 378 public schools in Aklan.
A total of 132,005 public school students enrolled this year. The total included 14,847 in senior high school, 40,627 in junior high school, 66,040 in elementary and 10,491 in kindergarten.
Figures last year showed a total of 130,489 enrollees, of which 9,405 were in kindergarten, 67,175 in elementary, 40,845 in junior high school and 13,064 in senior high school.
Education Program Specialist II Roland Democrito said parents prefer to enroll their children in public schools because of the health situation. The alternative learning modes offered are the same for both public and private schools anyway.
Distance learning is an alternative to “face-to-face” classes where children are learning their lessons at home amid the coronavirus pandemic.
DepEd also implemented the remote enrollment system to adhere to the standards of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and the Department of Health./PN
