ILOILO City – Sixteen taekwondo jins from Zarraga Taekwondo Stingers Dojang are set to represent the country in the Smart/MVPSF Asian Open Online Taekwondo Poomsae & Speed Kicking Championships from July 10 to 12.
Far Eastern University’s Ma. Reina Abello will banner the squad along with Mary Noelle Alim of the Central Philippine University. Also competing for the Angelo Herradura Osayda-mentored team in the female category are Djezelree Clavel, January Grizzel Alim, Keira Pradas, Precious Janna Subong, Ma. Christianne Dominique Sudayan, Ma. Roselle Pueyo, Herlyn Mende, and Trexy Redondo.
Imar Pinuela, Jose Ricardo Subong Jr., Sean Sobere, Sean Jerrell Sencida, Jaden Paul Aranjuez, and Prinz Khyzyl Eufan will be carrying the name of the Iloilo-based taekwondo stable in the men’s category of the tournament.
According to Osayda, the jins will be battling against around 2,500 Asian participants.
“It will be a tough competition because we will be facing the best of the best taekwondo jins in Asia. But I can assure that, against all odds, we will be doing our best,” he added.
The competition has two categories, with the poomsae slated to begin on July 10 (afternoon) and July 11 (morning), while the speed kicking event will be on July 11 (afternoon) and July 12 (morning)./PN
