ILOILO City – For two successive days, a total of 16,500 barangay residents in the districts of Lapuz and Molo availed themselves of free city government services through the community outreach program Pag-ulikid sang Syudad, Pag-ulikid ni Mayor.
Despite the inclement weather, people gathered at the barangay gymnasium of Mansaya, Lapuz on Aug. 3 for the Pag-ulikid services. Some 6,000 people – including those from the nearby villages of Loboc and Bo. Obrero were served.
Free services offered included medical checkup, tooth extraction and circumcision.
Identification cards for senior citizens and persons with disabilities were also freely distributed, while those with concerns over their birth certificates were accommodated.
“Wala sang pulos ang pag-uswag sang syudad kun indi ini mabatyagan sang aton mga pumuluyo,” Mayor Jose Espinosa III told barangay residents.
Pag-ulikid was conceptualized to make it easy for residents to avail themselves of city government services, especially those who find it difficult to go to the city hall.
Also on Aug. 3, the city government brought Pag-ulikid to Barangay Don Esteban, Lapuz. Some 5,000 people were served including those from the nearby villages of Sinikway, Jalandoni Estate and Lapuz Norte.
The city government also gave out free wheelchairs to those who needed them, and sports equipment to the youth.
The next day, Pag-ulikid reached out to 2,500 residents of Barangay East Baluarte (plus those in barangays South Baluarte and North Baluarte) in Molo district, and 3,000 more villagers in Barangay Katilingban and the adjacent villages of Poblacion and San Antonio.
Espinosa commended city government department heads, volunteers, support groups, and city hall employees for sustaining Pag-ulikid.
“The people’s welfare is our priority,” said Espinosa./PN
