ILOILO City – Around 16,000 employment opportunities will be up for grabs during a job fair at the Iloilo provincial capitol on Bonifacio Drive on June 1.
One hundred thirteen companies have confirmed participation to the job fair so far, according to the provincial government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
PESO head Francisco Heler Jr. said they are expecting the number of job vacancies to rack up as the job fair nears, with the capitol aiming to draw in 140 to 150 companies.
Ninety-three companies will offer local employment while 20 will open overseas work, Heler said, citing PESO data.
The 93 local companies are in the business process outsourcing, tutorials, retail and merchandising, automobile, engineering, and logistics industries, and hospitals, banks, malls, and hotels.
Moreover, several government agencies will set up help desks at the job fair to provide job-seekers easier access to their services.
They include Department of Foreign Affairs, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Professional Regulation Commission, Philippine Health Insurance Corp., or PhilHealth, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Philippine Statistics Authority, and Department of Labor and Employment.
Special lanes will be allotted for persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, solo parents, and beneficiaries of the Social Welfare department’s Sustainable Livelihood Program and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
In addition, PESO partners with the provincial Tourism and Agriculture offices and the Negosyo Center of the Department of Trade and Industry to give advice on investment opportunities, Heler disclosed.
It was learned that local chief executives were willing to provide service vehicles for their constituents who will join the June 1 job fair.
In the job fair the PESO-Iloilo held in 2017, a total of 5,208 applicants were employed – up from the 3,474 in 2016./PN
