KALIBO, Aklan – Seventeen participants are vying for cash prizes in the Individual Costume Contest on January 18.
The contest is one of the events of the 2025 Kalibo Señor Santo Niño Ati-Atihan Festival. The judging of entries is scheduled during the Bisperas it Kapiestahan ni Sr. Sto. Niño de Kalibo, according to Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival Board.
The entries are Kemayiah Jane Ropa (Agta), Frankelyn Quimpo Abelarde (Reyna Ulangkaya), Jarry Bais (Ka Luna), Rex Nabayra (Emol na Ate), John Kenneth Ingeniero (Aklanong Ati), Noela Trance (Vivacious Moana), Rowena Flores Tulio (Woman in Black Witch), Jhonvhick James Ilio (Datu Abang), Mizzy Jean Ninguna (Aeta Urangkaya) and Jomar Melgar (Inang Ati).
Other participants competing for top prizes are Anastacio Dalupang (Debosyonal na Ati), Junie Ras (Mariposa Angels), Bernie De Kingco (Mangangayam nga Ati), Andrew Cangayda (Andrew Cangayda Creation), Antonie Iradiel, Jaymico Magwale and S A Christian Diego.
This year’s theme is “Modern Tribal” with costumes made of recyclable and indigenous materials.
Entries will be judged based on craftsmanship and originality, visual aesthetics, durability, cultural value and relevance, wearability and functionality and overall impact.
They will converge at Goding Ramos Park grounds at 7 a.m. on January 18 for the judging. They will also join the sadsad at 8 a.m. from Osmeña Avenue Capitol towards the Kalibo Pastrana Park.
The grand winner will take home P35,000, while the second placer will receive P20,000 and the third placer will get P15,000.
The fourth and fifth placers will receive P5,000 each. A consolation prize of P3,000 will be given also for the sixth to 15th placers.
The winners of Individual Costume Contest will be announced on January 19 at Kalibo Magsaysay Park./PN
