ROXAS City – For not wearing facemasks, 17 persons here were apprehended by the police.
The Capiz Provincial Police Office (CPPO), upon directive of Gov. Fredenil Castro, has intensified the enforcement of Provincial Ordinance No. 082-2020 requiring people to observance the minimum public health standards, especially the wearing of facemasks.
The violators, who were issued citation tickets, were apprehended at police checkpoints joined by representatives from the City Health Office, Traffic Management Unit, and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Castro wanted minimum public health standards observed strictly due to rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
CPPO director Police Colonel Winston De Belen reminded the public that violation of Provincial Ordinance No. 082-2020 has penalties.
The first offense gets reprimanded while second, third and succeeding offenses have monetary fine.
For the second offense, the fine is P1,000 or imprisonment for a period of three days, or both, at the discretion of the court.
For the third and succeeding offense, the fine is P2,000 or imprisonment for a period of 10 days, or both at the discretion of the court./PN
