CAPIZ – The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) released a total of P620,642.40 indemnity claims to 173 farmers in this province affected by the El Niño phenomenon.
Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation officials, along with Gov. Gov. Fredenil Castro and the Provincial Agriculturist Office, led the distribution of checks to beneficiaries from the towns of Panay and Pontevedra at the provincial capitol on Friday, July 5.
The indemnity claims will be used by farmers to buy farm inputs and other high-value crops.
Gov. Castro said the claims could help alleviate the burden caused by the drought.
The governor further highlighted the importance of local farmers in the province’s economy, and reminded them to wisely use the support they received from the government to boost farm productivity./PN
