KALIBO, Aklan – Eighteen Aklanons tagged as high-risk contacts of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients were found infected with the viral illness, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.
According to the PHO, Kalibo has the most number of cases at 14 followed by Balete with three and Makato with only one.
The youngest patients were 6 and 10 years old. The oldest, meanwhile, was a 65-year-old woman from Kalibo.
Of the 18 high-risk contacts, six are males and 12 are females.
To date, Aklan has a total of 105 confirmed cases, 39 of which recovered and seven died.
It was on Sept, when the province recorded four additional cases – all of them were high-risk contacts from this town.
PHO-Aklan also reported 59 active cases, 66 percent (39) came from Kalibo. Two healthcare workers from Andagao and Estancia in the capital town also recovered.
It added that the province’s average number of COVID-19 cases per day showed at five in two weeks from Sept. 9 to Sept. 22.
Meanwhile, there are at least 181 pending swab specimens with Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC), a sub-national laboratory in Iloilo City.
With a surge on coronavirus infections in Kalibo, the Aklan provincial inter-agency task force held an emergency meeting on Sept. 22 to tackle the status of localized lockdowns.
Areas placed under surgical lockdowns on September 22 until Oct. 7 are portions of Magdalena interior, Ati-Atihan compound, Centro Highway and TLL Subdivision in New Buswang and portions of Peraz Ville and Ilaya in Old Buswang.
Portions of Melgar Road and Capitol near cockpit in Estancia, and area of St. Peter and St. Paul Chapel area and Ilaya Estancia are also monitored by the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams.
Local health authorities reminded the public to practice social distancing, wear face masks and face shields, and regular washing of hands with soap and water to contain the spread of the infectious disease. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
