ILOILO – Iloilo province, as of the latest census, has more than two million population.

With the existing 1,800 police personnel deployed in the different police stations, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) still needs about 500 additional personnel, said Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, provincial police director.

The IPPO aims to increase the number of its police personnel in various local police stations to cope with the required police – population ratio.

Tuzon said the current ratio is one police personnel for every 2,000 but some areas even go beyond this number.

“We have to rationalize the distribution of our personnel but we lack manpower,” he added.

Tuzon said they are targeting a ratio of one policeman for every 1,000 population in all municipalities while component cities will have a ratio of one police personnel for every 750 individuals.

Iloilo province as 42 towns and one component city.

Tuzon said they are currently waiting for an augmentation from the Police Regional Office. Recruitment of personnel is ongoing. (PNA)
