ILOILO – The provincial government targets to inoculate 61,053 Ilonggos daily in the second round of “Bayanihan Bakunahan” on Dec. 15 to 17.

This is lower than the 90,000 daily target set for the first mass vaccination drive from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, which the province failed to achieve.

However, according to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., the province is bolstering its vaccination effort to cover as many Ilonggos as possible regardless of the target.

Defensor said the provincial government will make adjustments based on the concerns from the first “Bayanihan Bakunahan.”

The province will hire more vaccinators, add accessible vaccination sites, intensify the vaccine education campaign, and call for more volunteers.

The governor also cited the province’s newest strategy, the “Brigada Bakuna” which aims to reach the pediatric population in strategic secondary schools.

Defensor is coordinating with Department of Education-Iloilo schools division superintendent, Dr. Roel Bermejo in identifying these schools.

To entice more students to get vaccinated, Defensor said local government units will give incentives to the vaccinees.

Kada banwa lain-lain ang incentive… We are working on this and we will see kon ano ang mabulig sang provincial government,” he added.

The governor encouraged mayors, local health officers, barangay health workers (BHWs) and barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) to conduct house-to-house pre-registration.

As of Dec. 8, a total of 931,542 individuals or 64.30 percent of the target population received at least one dose of the vaccine while 564,630 individuals  or 38.97 percent were fully vaccinated.
