19 displaced workers of fire-hit mall get assistance from LGU

TOBIAS FORNIER, Antique – The local government unit (LGU) here recently released P5,000 cash assistance to each of its 19 residents displaced from their work when fire gutted Gaisano Grand Mall in Barangay 8, San Jose, Antique.

The assistance was released on Sept. 24, three months after the June 17 mall fire.

“Kabay pa nga sa gamay nga bulig mapahagan-hagan ang kabudlay nga inyo nabatyagan tungod naduraan kamo kang source of income sa tion pa kang pandemya,” said Mayor Jose Maria A. Fornier.

The provincial government of Antique under Gov. Rhodora Cadiao earlier released P5,000 cash assistance to each of the displaced mall fire victims plus one sack of rice and relief goods.

The fire, which was estimated to have displaced over 300 workers, destroyed the second floor of the mall.

The second floor mostly showcased garments.

A liquefied petroleum gas tank reportedly exploded, fanning the flames further.

Three months after the blaze, the Bureau of Fire Protection has yet to release the results of its investigation./PN
