ILOILO – A 19-year-old student claimed he was abducted in Jaro, Iloilo City on Monday, June 19, and thus failed to attend his senior high school graduation.

He said his abductors left him in San Miguel town when they realized they have mistaken him for the real person they were targeting.

The police, however, were skeptical.

Police Major Richard Lao, officer-in-charge of the San Miguel, Iloilo police station, said the student did not have knot marks on his arms.

“Wala siya sang higot [sa iya kamot]. Amo na gani nga nagaduda man ko. Waay man sia na-restrain,” said Lao.

The San Miguel police added they were still checking footages from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area where the abductors supposedly left the student.

“Kay kun ako to maglantaw daw ‘basi’ bala…indi pa man ko kasigurado…basi bala kuno abi gin-abduct siya….Ginalantaw naton kun diin gid ang matuod sini that is why gin-turn over naton sa Jaro police kay didto ang origin,” said Lao.

The abduction allegedly happened around 1 p.m. in Barangay Libertad-Sta. Isabel, Jaro, Iloilo City. According to the student, five men forced him into a white van.

For their part, the Jaro police won’t pursue the investigation.

According to Police Captain Lester Oliveros, Jaro police chief, when they reviewed the CCTV footage of the spot where the abduction supposedly happened, there was no white van or the student.

Meanwhile, the student’s family said they would check his status at his school./PN
