ILOILO City – One hundred ninety personnel of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) were subjected to random drug testing yesterday.
Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, provincial police director, led the drug testing “to show to my men that their superior is clear.”
The 190 cops were ordered to submit urine samples.
Gorero did not give any specific date of the test results’ release.
Police officers flunking the drug tests face administrative charges and could be removed from the service.
The IPPO chief said there will be another round of unannounced drug tests. He warned police officers not to engage in illegal drugs.
On the other hand, Gorero said 25 Iloilo cops who underwent drug tests on Dec. 5 all tested negative.
“We are happy…We are doing this as part of an internal cleansing,” Gorero said.
Earlier this month, Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, new Police Regional Office 6 director, ordered the mandatory drug testing of over 13,000 cops across Western Visayas before the year ends.
This initiative is in line with Miranda’s directive for an intensified internal cleansing.
The drug tests will be administered by the Regional Crime Laboratory Office and supervised by the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division./PN
