GUIMARAS – The Iloilo City government donated 1,000 doses of AstraZenaca vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to the provincial government of Guimaras.
The vaccines were delivered to Oct. 9.
The donation was part of the 2,000 doses that Mayor Jerry Treñas promised to areas composing the Metro-Iloilo Guimaras Economic Development Council or MIGEDC – Guimaras, and the towns of Leganes, Oton, Pavia, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, and Cabatuan in Iloilo province.
The 1,000 jabs delivered on Saturday would be distributed to the Guimaras towns of Jordan, Buenavista, San Lorenzo, Sibunag, and Nueva Valencia.
“Being the economic center, we understand that nearby provinces enter the city to engage in economic activities even during this pandemic,” according to Treñas.
The Iloilo City government placed orders for AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines early this year. But it is also receiving other brands from the national government such as Sinovac, Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen.
“I deeply understand that we must also help people outside the metro as they are also vulnerable to severe COVID-19,” said Treñas./PN
