THE 1st Cong. Michael and Doc Kathy Gorriceta Pahampang 2024 concluded with much excitement, leaving a lasting impact on the local government units (LGUs) of Iloilo Province’s 2nd District. Led by Cong. Michael “Mike” Gorriceta and his wife, Dr. Kathryn Joyce “Kathy” Fermin Gorriceta, the event was more than just a sports fest; it celebrated health, camaraderie, and community spirit.

The pahampang was inspired by Dr. Kathy’s vision to promote physical and mental well-being in the district.

“This idea came from my wife,” said Cong. Gorriceta. “She believed in the need for an inter-LGU sports event, and I’m thrilled we made it happen this 2024.”

Dr. Kathy also said the objective of the event is to foster good relationship among every LGU, adding “We want everyone to become a family here in the 2nd District.”

The event featured basketball and volleyball competitions that ran for nearly three months, fostering friendly competition and unity among the seven participating municipalities.

Dr. Kathy highlighted the importance of both physical activity and mental health, noting that sports can help manage the stresses faced by the residents.

She also emphasized the dual focus of the initiative: “What motivated us, especially me, was our well-being. Physical well-being is crucial — moving and exercising keep illnesses at bay. Equally important is mental health. Our LGUs and the people of the 2nd District face a lot of stress from work, daily needs, and poverty. I believe engaging in sports is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy mental state.”
