THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office completed the concreting of Poblacion Barotac Nuevo- Barangay Acuit Road in Barotac Nuevo, in the amount of P48.998 million.

The project involves concreting of 2.293-kilometer, 2-lane road with a pavement width of 6.70 meters and thickness of 280.0 millimeters, including drainage system, slope protection and pavement markings.

District Engineer Sanny Boy O. Oropel said this road leads to Dumangas Ro-Ro port, which serves as one of the gateways for sea transportation of goods and services in and out of Panay island.

“Transport of commodities via this road section was quite time consuming before since vehicles had to slow down in order not to break down or damage the goods they carry,” Oropel said

“With this paved road, travel time of the motorists and commuters from the town of Barotac Nuevo to Dumangas and vice versa is reduced by about 20 minutes,” he added.

In addition, DE Oropel said that the concreted road improves the overall accessibility and reduces transportation cost for the delivery of goods and services from Panay Island to other regions and vice versa.

“The improvement of this road section results to easier transport of goods and provision of services. Markets became more accessible, thereby augmenting the economic condition of the communities,” he said./PN
