KALIBO, Aklan – Two Aklanons have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO) here.

PHO-Aklan Dr. Cornelio Cuachon Jr. said yesterday the two patients were the doctor from Boracay Island in Malay town and a senior citizen from the town of Libacao.

“The Libacao resident will be discharged tomorrow from the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital (DRSTMH) in this capital town and will undergo a 14-day-quarantine in his home. The Boracay doctor, on the other hand, will still be quarantined for 14 days at the Aklan Training Center,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Joanne Abril, head of the infectious diseases of the DRSTMH, said the investigation drugs used by doctors may have contributed to the recovery of the Libacao patient.

“We could not yet consider if the investigation drug is effective. We need more results coming from the other patients,” Abril said.
As of April 21, this province still has six confirmed cases of COVID-19 with no mortality from it. No new cases of the virus have also been registered by PHO-Aklan for more than two weeks.

All the patients had a history of travel to Manila within the past two months before they contracted the virus.
Here’s the list of the four other confirmed cases of COVID-19 in this province:

* A 68-year-old man and his 66-year-old wife from this capital town
* A 44-year-old resident of Altavas town but works in Roxas City, Capiz

* A 40-year-old seaman from this capital town
The three patients, whose swab samples were collected by the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City on April 13, are still waiting for their repeat confirmatory testing for COVID-19 results while the 68-year-old man tested positive for the virus once more on April 21.

In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in this province, the enhanced community quarantine directives of Gov. Florencio Miraflores came into effect on March 23. Residents have been ordered to stay home, to wear protective masks, to avoid large gatherings, and to maintain social distancing to not contract the virus./PN
