ILOILO City – A driver of San Lorenzo, Guimaras’ Vice Mayor Carmelina Fernandez and another man were arrested in separate police operations for illegal gun possession.
Edmundo Tamagos of Barangay Constancia, San Lorenzo and Antonio Coronia, 60, of Barangay M. Chaves, San Lorenzo were detained at the municipal police station.
First to be arrested on Wednesday was Tamagos, a former casual employee of the municipal government of San Lorenzo.
Operatives of the San Lorenzo police station headed by Police Captain Stephen Lee Betansos searched Tamagos’ house around 6:45 a.m. and recovered a .38 revolver, a .45 pistol and bullets.
After an hour, the police proceeded to Coronia’s house. They recovered a hand grenade, live and empty bullet shells.
Betansos said they received information that Coronia, the municipal vice mayor’s driver, had a gun.
Coronia and Tamagos failed to show licenses for their guns and explosives, said Betansos.
The police chief also said the two men were among four suspects in the death of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Ezequiel Cabrieto on March 3 this year in Barangay Cabungahan.
Cabrieto was shot to death. The police eyed “old grudge” as motive.
Coronia and Tamagos, however, denied killing Cabrieto./PN
