2 Bacolod gov’t workers in hot water for alleged corruption

BACOLOD City – Two regular employees of the city government here are facing complaints for their alleged involvement in graft and corrupt practices.

City Legal Officer Karol Joseph Chiu said the aforementioned employees are assigned at the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) and City Treasurer’s Office (CTO).

“The two allegedly acted as fixers. The complaints were filed at the City Mayor’s Office (CMO) in December 2024 alleging that they received money from the complainants in exchange for their business permit processing,” said Chiu.

The said BENRO and CTO employees received P40,000 and P12,000, respectively, from the complainants, Chiu said.

“Complaints were filed against them after no business permits were released to the complainants,” the city legal officer said.

Chiu added that a formal charge for grave misconduct was filed at the City Legal Office (CLO) against the male BENRO employee while no formal charge yet against the female CTO employee.

The said CTO employee failed to respond to the show-cause order issued to her last year. The CLO is awaiting an investigation report to be signed by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez for them to immediately file a formal charge against her.

Currently, the two city government employees are still under their respective offices due to the ban on appointment, hiring, transfers, promotion or suspension of employees in relation to the May 12 midterm elections./PN
