MANILA – Bacolod City-natives Paolo Nico Javelona and Jairold Flores banner the 55 applicants who have declared their intention to join the 2016 PBA Rookie Draft on Oct. 30 at the Robinson’s Place in Ermita, Manila.
Javelona was part of the National University Bulldogs squad that clinched the UAAP crown two seasons ago. He’s also had stints with PBA D-League runner-up Tanduay Rhum Masters and the Banco de Oro Bulldogs.
Flores, on the other hand, suited up as a backup big man for the University of the East Red Warriors, finishing runner-up to the Ateneo Blue Eagles in 2009. He also played for several years in the PBA D-League before deciding to join the PBA Draft.
All in all, there are four rookie aspirants from Western Visayas who are hoping to break into the professional league, after Aaron Jeruta and Billy Ray Robles, who both hail from Iloilo City.
Last year, there was one applicant from Western Visayas in former University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers center Robert Hainga of Negros Occidental. He was drafted by the Mahindra Enforcers but failed to make the final cut.
Blackwater Elite owns the top-overall pick following its sub-par showing in the 41st season. It will be followed by the Phoenix Fuel Masters, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, Mahindra Enforcers, Star Hotshots, and the San Miguel Beermen./PN
