2 cops face probe for ‘drug protection racket’

ILOILO City – Two members of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) are under investigation for their alleged involvement in illegal drugs.

PRO-6 director Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor, however, withheld the names of the police officers who are assigned at the PRO-6 headquarters.

He added that one of the officers is under a pre-charge investigation by the PRO-6’s Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS), after being identified by the No. 4 drug suspect in Iloilo province as his protector.

On July 21 of this year, a drug suspect identified as “RK” was arrested in Barangay P. Ledesma Ward, Pototan town. He claimed he was giving P5,000 a month to the said police officer in exchange for information about whether his colleagues would be conducting an anti-drug operation.

“We will be giving them due process to defend themselves during the investigation,” Villaflor said.

Earlier, PRO-6 reported that three police officers are facing potential dismissal due to allegations of illegal drug use. Villaflor said they have been temporarily relieved of their duties and disarmed. Their badges were confiscated while they undergo pre-charge investigations and face potential summary dismissal proceedings.

“What we are doing right now is part of the cleansing process within the PNP (Philippine National Police) organization,” the PRO-6 director added./PN
