ILOILO City – The police chief of Carles, Iloilo and his driver were hospitalized. Their patrol car hit a coconut tree in Barangay Tiwi, Barotac Nuevo town.
Insp. Clarenza Sia, 23, of Santa Rosa, Laguna and driver, PO2 Zenit Apolinario, 28, of Barangay Guintacan, Carles, Iloilo were taken to the hospital in Barotac Nuevo.
The two were headed back to Carles at the time of the accident, said Senior Supt. Cornelio Salinas, Iloilo police director.
They came from a command conference at the Iloilo Police Provincial Office in Santa Barbara town.
Apolinario tried to overtake a motorcycle but a tricycle came heading their way. To avoid a collision, he drove the car to the roadside but crashed against a coconut tree.
Sia and Apolinario sustained minor injuries.
