ILOILO – Two college students died and one was injured. Their motorcycle crashed against a private a van in Barangay Caw-i, Batad, Iloilo around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
Motorcycle driver John Rodgen Nacionales, 21, of Barangay Lumbia, Estancia, Iloilo, and his backrider, Edles Aresto, 20, of Barangay San Nicolas, San Dionisio, Iloilo, were killed in the accident.
They suffered from fatal head injuries for not wearing helmets, the Batad Municipal Police Station (MPS) said.
Another backrider, Kenneth Soliva, 20, of Barangay Bulak, Batad was injured.
The victims, allegedly inebriated, were on their way to the town of San Dionisio, according to Batad MPS chief Police Captain Jaype Silvestre.
“Tatlo ni sila mga first year college, daw mga IT course na kwa nila. According sini kay Kenneth, prior sa insidente naka-inom-inom na ini sila sa Batad. Idulong ni nila tani si Edles sa San Dioniso. Nadulaan control kuno ang driver asta nga natumba sila kag nabungo sa nasugata nga van,” said Silvestre.
Meanwhile, the van driver, Kim Alpuente, 32, was a resident of Barangay Tina, Dumarao, Capiz.
“Ang (van) driver gin custody namon overnight, pero gin release ini after sang reglementary period. So ginahulat namon ang desisyon sang pamilya kung mapasaka sila sang kaso ukon indi,” Silvestre added./PN
