ILOILO – Two individuals died while one was injured when the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a streetlight pole in Barangay Ungka 1, Pavia town here at around 2:45 a.m. yesterday.
The fatalities were identified as Marrian Grace Jegonia, 21, a resident of Barangay Bito-on, Jaro, Iloilo City; and Nethalyn Mae Gardose, 21, of Barangay Guiso, Calinog, Iloilo. They were declared “dead on arrival” at the Western Visayas Sanitarium in Santa Barbara town.
Meanwhile, Maria Charmayne Oredina, 21, a resident of Barangay Buntatala, Jaro, Iloilo City, is currently being treated at the West Visayas State University Medical Center.
According to Police Staff Sergeant Christian Lloyd Gumban of Pavia police station, Jegonia was driving the motorcycle with Gardose and Oredina as backriders. They were headed to Calinog.
“Halin ni sila sa Iloilo City pakadto tani sa Calinog pero pag-abot sa Barangay Ungka I, Pavia hinali lang nga naduraan control sa motorsiklo ang driver kay madasig gid man ni ang dalagan nila kag ga-ulan pa kagina, nabunggo sila sa may poste sang streetlight,” Gumban said.
“May mga pilas ni sila kag ang duha ni, si Jegonia kag Gardose, amo gid ang natam-an. Gindala pa ni sila sa Sanitarium pero gindeklarar gid nga ‘dead on arrival,’” Gumban added.
Meanwhile, Police Major Rolando Araño, Pavia police chief, confirmed that the three women were drunk and riding a motorcycle without a helmet./PN
