MANILA – Two people were killed and one went missing amid the heavy rains and floods brought about by the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm “Karding,” said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Dioscoro Camacho of Marikina City and Gloria Borlongan Mendoza of Quezon City drowned, the NDRMMC said in a media briefing on Monday morning.
On the other hand, Edgar Indelible Bugaay of Quezon City has yet to be accounted for as of Monday after he reportedly fell into a creek and was swept by strong currents.
A total of 248,080 families (1,057,767 individuals) in 713 barangays in Regions I, III, Calabarzon, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Metro Manila were affected by habagat, the NDRRMC said.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), local government, and nongovernment organizations allotted P44,491,298 worth of assistance to residents in Regions I, III, CAR, and NCR.
Five out of 3,178 damaged houses in Regions I and III were totally damaged while 3,127 were partially damaged. Three road sections in CAR were impassable since Saturday.
“The flood began to subside in 74 out of 124 flooded areas in Region I, Calabarzon and NCR but the NDRRMC Operations Center remain under red alert status,” the NDRRMC said.
Meanwhile the Philippine Coast Guard reported that suspended voyages in ports left 193 passengers, five vessels and 30 motorboats stranded in Camarines Sur, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, and Northern Quezon./PN
