BACOLOD City – Two farmers died of drowning in a river in Barangay Yao-yao, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, a police report showed.
Municipal police head Chief Inspector James Latayon identified them as Jobar Gana-an and Nestor Lasay – both 50 years old and residents of Sitio Buclao, Barangay Tuyum, Cauayan.
Gana-an and Lasay rode a tricycle driven by the 25-year-old “Toto Gabuan” around 10 p.m. on Sunday as they crossed the river whose water level rose due to heavy rains.
Police said the river’s strong current swept the tricycle and flushed out its riders.
Toto Gabuan managed to swim to safety but his passengers were not as lucky.
Gana-an’s body was found at 9 a.m. on Monday while Lasay’s was still unretrieved. Lasay was considered dead.
The retrieval mission was ongoing as of press time./PN
