VALDERRAMA, Antique – The water level of the Cangaranan River in Barangay Canipayan rose in the afternoon of Sept. 8, trapping two women. Fortunately, they were rescued.

Imelda Landiga was 61 years old while Lynica Magbanua was 31.

They tried to retrieve the cows they left to graze in an open field across the river in the morning, said Antique Provincial Risk Reduction Management Officer Broderick “Boyet” Train, but the water level rose quickly, preventing them from crossing the river.

The women cried out for help and barrio mates alerted the authorities.

Rescuers of the Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office – Quick Response Team and the Valderrama Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office responded. They used an inflatable lifeboat to rescue the women.

The sudden rise in the river’s water level was due to incessant rains./PN
