SAN JOSE, Antique – Two convicts released from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law, have surrendered to their respective police stations here in the province.
Lieutenant Colonel Norby Escobar, deputy director for operations of the Antique Provincial Police Office, said Monday that the two former inmates reported to the police stations of Culasi and Patnongon towns following the order of President Rodrigo Duterte for the GCTA beneficiaries to surrender.
“The two GCTA beneficiaries are now at the Culasi and Patnongon municipal police stations waiting to be fetched by the BuCor (Bureau of Corrections) personnel,” he said.
He added that the chiefs of police of the two towns are also waiting for instruction whether BuCor will fetch them or request the concerned police station to bring them to Muntinlupa.
Escobar said the 57-year-old inmate from Culasi was charged for murder and released last Aug. 6 this year.
“The GCTA beneficiary, however, surrendered to the Culasi police station last September 6 upon hearing the order of President Duterte,” he said.
The other convict, a 56-year-old GCTA beneficiary from Patnongon, was charged with homicide and frustrated homicide.
He was released from the NBP last March 13, but surrendered to the police on Sept. 12.
Escobar encouraged other inmates released through GCTA to surrender to the police station nearest them, even as he assured that the lawmen will treat them properly and respect their human rights. (With a report from PNA/PN)
