BACOLOD City — Two of Himamaylan City police officers were relieved from their posts.

Chief Superintendent Antonio Cañete was temporarily moved to Camp Crame, the national headquarters of the Philippine National Police.

Police officer Aireen Taco, head of the city’s Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD),meanwhile, asked to be transferred in the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office after a misunderstanding with Cañete.

The conflict started when Taco filed a rape case against Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) member Harry Sian without Cañete’s presence.

Sian was accused of raping his 17-year-old house helper in several occasions.

Cañete would have wanted to see the affidavit before the filing, but he had an official appointment that time.

He said instead of rape, WCPD should have filed “seduction of minor” against the 70-year-old city councilor.

Taco, however, said there was no need to wait for Cañete because filing the casewas WCPD’s responsibility.

Senior Superintendent Milko Lirazan, provincial police director, said there is no need for Cañete or his deputy to intervene with WCPD functions./PN
