ILONGGOS Althea Rose Martinez and Marben Mosquera claimed two championships each during the Iloilo Junior Tennis Cup 2019 at the Ultra Tennis Club in La Paz, Iloilo City.
The Martinez, an Iloilo City native , won her two gold medals in the 16-and-under and 18-and-under girls singles, while Mosquera nabbed the 16-and-under and 18-and-under boys golds.
Martinez, a standout of Central Philippine University Golden Lions, took her 16-and-under and 18-and-under gold medals by defeating Ilongga Avril Andrea Suace in the finals. The scores were 6-1, 6-1 in 16-and-under and 6-2, 6-2 in 18-and-under.
The La Paz National High School product Mosquera claimed his 16-and-under gold by beating Nikel Nowlakha of Iloilo City in the finals (6-1, 7-5), while he defeated Johndreve Jimenea of Iloilo City in the 18-and-under finals (6-1, 6-1).
John Benedict Santiago of Iloilo City netted the 14-and-under boys gold with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Elemar Sealza of Alimodian, while Ilongga Maria Petrina Abegail Aguirre edged Maria Alexandra Onte in 14-and-under girls finals, 6-1, 7-5.
Aleeva Feonne Suace of Iloilo City nabbed the 12-and-under girls gold medal with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Ilongga Dolores Hofilena, while Ilonggo Francis Nigel de Juan ruled the 10 years & under (unisex) with a 4-1, 4-0 win over Louraine Jallorina (Iloilo City).
The four-day tennis tournament, which was part of the annual Dinagyang fiesta, was sponsored by the PBA Party list, Iloilo City Government though Mayor Atty. Jose Espinosa III and ULTRA Tennis Club./PN
