ILOILO City – Two individuals were injured in a shooting incident on Zamora Street in Barangay Monica Blumentritt, City Proper around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8.

Victims Benjamin Espinosa and Pascual Jose Ramon Espinosa sustained minor injuries.

“Samtang naga-inom ‘ni ang magpakaisa nga Espinosa (in front of Benjamin’s house), according sa ila statement diri sa aton, may nagpalapit lang kuno sa ila nga nakasakay sa motor kag nagtiro ka isa. Ang bati man sang mga residente didto nga isa lang gid man ka lupok,” said Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, station commander of the Iloilo City Police Station 1.

Police investigators were baffled. Only one burst of gunfire was heard, and only one spent bullet shell was recovered, so how did that injure both cousins?

“Palaligban ini sa bahin sang imbestigador kun paano,” Sangrines added.

On Dec. 14, 2022 a shooting incident in the barangay also inconvenienced other members of the Espinosa clan.

Vehicles owned by former Monica Blumentritt punong barangay Freddy Espinosa, fiscal Ma. Monica Espinosa, Fillmore Espinosa, and Lovely Obligacion were strafed.

Police said residents heard bursts of gunfire and later discovered that the vehicles – parked inside the village’s covered gym – were already riddled with bullet holes./PN
