BORACAY — Its pristine beaches and breathtaking beauty make this island resort attractive to organizers of international events.
Boracay will host next year two international gatherings seen to pitch the island’s tourism potentials to the world market.
One of them, Tourism regional director Helen Catalbas said, is the meeting of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Chief Justices Meeting and the Asean Law Association (ALA) Conference in February.
The other is the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, for which Boracay and Iloilo City were chosen as hosts in Western Visayas, in May.
Some 700 delegates from ALA — a nongovernmental organization of judges, law teachers, law practitioners, and government lawyers — are attending.
ALA meetings aim to promote close relations and mutual understanding among Asean judiciaries, and to provide a regular forum where Asean chief justices can exchange views on common issues facing Asean judiciaries.
Asean comprises 10 member-countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Boracay will also host the second APEC Senior Official Meetings and Related Meetings from May 10 to 21. Some 1,900 delegates are attending.
Come May 23 to 24, it will be the venue of the Ministers Responsible for Trade Meetings, which is expected to have 600 delegates. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
