JORDAN, Guimaras – Barangays Rizal and Poblacion here have been declared as free from illegal drugs by the regional oversight committee on the campaign against drug trafficking.
Police Major Kenith Bermejo, police chief of Jordan, received a certification from the committee on March 22.
This meant that the number of Jordan’s drug-cleared barangay rose to 13. The 11 others were declared drug-free much earlier. These were Alaguisoc, Balcon Maravilla, Balcon Melliza, Bugnay, Buluangan, Espinosa, Hoskyn, Lawi, Morobuan, Poblacion, Rizal, Sinapsapan, and Santa Teresa.
Only one village remains to be cleared – San Miguel.
To be declared as cleared of illegal drugs, a barangay must meet the following conditions:
* non-availability of illegal drugs
* absence of drug dens, pushers and users, protectors or financiers
* absence of clandestine drug laboratories, warehouses, marijuana cultivation sites
* no drug transit or transshipment activity
* active involvement of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials in anti-drug activities
* conduct of drug awareness, preventive education and information campaign
* operation of voluntary and compulsory drug treatment and rehabilitation processing desk
The regional oversight committee is made up of the regional offices of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of Health, Department of Interior and Local Government and Police Regional Office 6./PN
