2 men jailed for ‘illegal fishing’

BACOLOD City – For illegal fishing, two persons were arrested in Negros Occidental.

They were the 27-year-old Jeremiah Morit of Barangay Tagda, Hinigaran town and 54-year-old Rejam Quianto of Barangay Aguisan, Himamaylan City, a police report showed.

Morit and Quianto were arrested around 12:15 p.m. on Monday in Barangay Poblacion, Cauayan town.

Their arrest was conducted on the strength of an arrest warrant that Judge Conrado Estreller Jr. of the Municipal Trial Court in Cauayan issued on Aug. 22.

Morit and Quianto were charged for violation of sections 86 and 95 of Republic Act 10654, or The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.

They were detained in the lockup cell of the Cauayan municipal police station.

Bail bonds worth P3,000 and P18,000 were recommended for Morit and Quianto corresponding to each of the offense./PN
