ILOILO City – Three homemade shotguns and several ammunition were seized from a resident of Barangay Inangayan, Santa Barbara, Iloilo.
The 37-year-old Rodnel Allasco failed to show documents proving his legal ownership of the weapons. He was arrested and detained, a police report showed.
In Pototan town the day before, the 57-year-old Ramon Matillano of Barangay Tuburan was also arrested for allegedly manufacturing homemade guns.
Officers swooped down on Allasco’s house at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday on the strength of a search warrant issued by Judge Gloria Madero of the Regional Trial Court Branch 29.
They recovered two long-barreled shotguns, a short-barreled shotgun and several ammunition.
Allasco faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
As for Matillano, officers from the Pototan police station and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office raided his house at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
They recovered a .357 revolver, ammunition for a .45 pistol, and equipment and materials in making homemade firearms, said Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, provincial police director.
Police Regional Office6 spokeswoman Chief Inspector Joem Malong said cracking down on loose firearms was part of the gun ban imposed in view of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
“Expect more searches,” Malong warned. “Better turn over [your unlicensed firearms] to the police to avoid criminal charges.”/PN
