2 men land in jail for ‘maligning’ cab driver

ILOILO City – Police arrested two men who were complained for threatening a taxi driver in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district.

The 63-year-old Sandy Gerolen of Arevalo district and 75-year-old Serafin Pendon of Pototan, Iloilo were caught around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a police report showed.

Their arrest came after the pickup they were riding bumped into the back portion of a taxi driven by 33-year-old Welmer Cadano, the complainant.

Cadano told the cops that after the crash, Gerolen and Pendon alighted from the pickup and maligned him.

When the police responded, a .40-caliber pistol was recovered from the pickup. The suspects denied they own the gun.

Gerolen and Pendon were detained in the lockup cell of the Mandurriao police station.

Charges for oral defamation, grave threat and violation of the election gun ban will be filed against them, police said./PN
