MANILA – Negrenses May Therese Gula and Ara Rahbea Delotavo capped off their campaigns in the 2019 Arafura Games with a gold medal each on Monday in Darwin, Australia.
Gula and Delotavo, both from Bacolod Tay Tung High School’s athletics team, was part of the Philippine squad’s 4×400 relay team that won gold along with Abegail Manzano and Jessel Lumapas.
It was the third medal of the Bacolod City native Gula in the competition after taking home a bronze medal in 1,500-meter dash on Sunday and another bronze in women’s 800 meter on Monday.
On the part of the Silay City native Delotavo, this was her second medal after finishing with a silver as part of the 4×100 relay squad along with Lumapas, Eliza Cuyom and Evangelene Caminong.
Escalante City, Negros Occidental native Franz Gela Romualdo Bintad, meanwhile, clinched a silver medal in the women’s open discus throw to add up to her gold in javelin throw last Sunday.
Overall, the Leigh Dano-mentored Negrense tracksters took home two golds, two silver and two bronze medals in the competition which is making a return for the first time since 2011./PN
