MANILA – National University keeps on loading up its volleyball squad. It has secured the commitment of two Negros Occidental-based volleybelles for the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Bullpups.
Lady Bulldogs is adding depth to its squad with the acquisition of Bacolodnon middle blocker Gelina Luceño, a potential replacement to former Lady Bulldog Jaja Santiago.
“Being recruited by NU is a great opportunity,” Luceño told Panay News. “I think I’ll be more developed here and I am also really blessed to share my talent with the team po.”
Luceño, who had played for Bacolod Tay Tung High School and St. John’s Institute, will be one of the two Western Visayas-based players to enter Lady Bulldogs lineup aside from Ilongga Princess Robles.
Lady Bullpups, the reigning four-time UAAP juniors volleyball champions, also got a boost on its defense after acquiring WV secondary girls volleyball team libero Shaira Jardio.
“Yes I will be transferring to National University this year,” said the Talisay, Negros Occidental-native Jardio. “I am excited and at the same time pressured since NU is not a pushover. They are the four-time UAAP champions.”
“I will just do my best to contribute to NU. Since I am playing the libero position, I will double my effort on receiving and on defense on the floor,” added the Negrense player.
Jardio, who previously played for Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School, will joined fellow Negrenses Princess Maicah Larroza and Jessa Ordiales in the Lady Bullpups lineup./PN
