2 NPA rebels slain in Moises Padilla clash

BACOLOD City – Two members of the New People’s Army (NPA) died in a clash with soldiers of the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB) in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental yesterday morning.

Two rebels remained unidentified as of this writing.

Brigadier General Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade (303IBde) commander, said the clash took place at around 7 a.m.

The NPA unit was believed to be from the Central Negros Front 1 and responsible for several atrocities in Moises Padilla and neighboring areas.

Pasaporte did not say how many rebels were involved in the clash, although by the time the rebels fled the encounter site.

It was also believed that several rebels may have been wounded.

Recovered from the encounter site were two M16 rifles, an AK-47, an M14, and an M203 grenade launcher.

As of press time, hot pursuit operations were ongoing./PN
