MANILA – Its playoffs spot in the PBA Philippine Cup already secured, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters is now dealing with manpower issues.

Two-time PBA Most Valuable Player awardee James Yap is likely to be out for the rest of the conference after sustaining a pulled calf muscle injury while Raymond Almazan is also doubtful with a hand injury.

“Si James mukhang malabo siya talaga sa quarterfinals. I don’t know when he’s going to come back,” said Painters head coach Carlos Garcia said on the Negrense cager. “If his recovery goes as scheduled, he can return only if we make it to the semifinals.”

“As for Raymond, he had a hand injury prior (to last Wednesday’s game against San Miguel Beermen),” he added. “During the game, natamaan siya kaya namaga. We will see if he will be available for the playoffs.”

A welcome development for Painters is the impending return of Chris Tiu, who is recovering from hamstring injury.

But Tiu is still expected to sit out Painters’ game against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings tonight.

“Si Chris, with the win against San Miguel, I think he’ll going to rest on Friday to prepare us on Sunday,” Garcia said. “Hindi naman ganoon kalala iyong injury niya kumpara kay James.”

Painters headed to the playoffs after its 95-80 win over three-time defending champion Beermen on Wednesday night. The team can go up to as high as fourth place if it beats Kings tonight.
