BACOLOD City – Two men who were charged with rape separately got arrested in Negros Occidental on Wednesday.
One of them is a native of Barangay Zaragoza, Bugasong, Antique the police identified as the 38-year-old Rey Benigno Sanchez.
Sanchez was caught around 3:30 p.m. at Hacienda Progreso in Barangay Bulad, Isabela on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Gerardo Diaz of the Regional Trial Court Branch 68 in Iloilo City.
According to the police, Sanchez had been evading arrest since June 2003, the time the warrant was issued.
Officers from the Isabela police station, Bugasong police station, Antique Provincial Mobile Force Company, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Antique, and Negros Occidental Police Mobile Force Company staged Sanchez’s arrest.
Meanwhile in Barangay Refugio, Calatrava, another rape suspect – 29-year-old Richard “Enchang” Pescanti – was arrested around 12 p.m.
Pescanti’s apprehension was conducted on the strength of an arrest warrant that Judge Amy Alabado Avellano of the Regional Trial Court Branch 58 in San Carlos City, Negros Occcidental issued on July 4, 2018.
Officers from the Calatrava police station, Provincial Intelligence Unit and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Negros Occidental staged the arrest.
Sanchez and Pescanti were detained. Both courts did not recommend bail bonds for their temporary liberty./PN
