ILOILO City – A land dispute in Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island, Malay Aklan left two persons with gunshot wounds yesterday.

Edlyn Padilla, 19, of Bacolod City and Roquito Tumbagahan, 39, of Ibajay, Aklan were taken to a hospital in mainland Kalibo, Aklan.

The shooting happened around 9 a.m. at Cliff Luxury Villas, according to Inspector Telmiji Majuk, deputy police chief of the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC).

The group of one Dr. Marichi Ramos of Bacolod City had a heated argument with the caretakers of the resort, said Majuk.

The property reportedly belonged to Atty. Lucas Licerio who was not around, he added.

Atty. Jomax Ortiz, legal counsel of Ramos, said his client and her companions went to the area to peacefully serve a letter from the Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation (SOSIA) that Licerio’s security guards in the resort should vacate the area.

However, said Ortiz, when Ramos and her group were about to serve the letter, somebody fired at them, hitting Padilla and Tumbagahan.

According to Ortiz, the property dispute started last year. He also said the resort was owned by Ramos’ relative Dolora Khana.

Ortiz said Khana bought the property from Licerio for P30 million in 2016 but it was not turned over to her.

“Our client (Ramos) and her companions went to the area to supposedly serve the letter that the resort’s guards should already vacate the area. But they were shot. We secured the letter from SOSIA. The property is now owned by Khana. She bought it,” stressed Ortiz.

On the other hand, resort caretaker Benny Clarite claimed one of Ramos’ about 25 companions grabbed his shirt told him to get the resort’s key while poking a gun at him.

As of this writing the BTAC was still trying to determine who fired guns.

Licerio could not be reached for comment as of this writing./PN
