2-T mangroves planted in NegOcc’s coastal village

BACOLOD City – “We only have one planet earth – one world. It is our earth. Our home.”

This was the statement of Ignacio Cabayao Jr., chief Agrarian Reform Program officer during a mangrove-planting activity in Barangay Tomongtong’s coastline area in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.

Around 120 volunteers planted around 2,000 mangrove buds (propagules) to support the government’s Expanded National Greening Program, said Cabayao.

The participants were composed of DAR Negros Occidental employees, personnel of the Community Environment and Natural Resources-Bago, barangay officials of E.B. Magalona, and students of Tomongtong Elementary School.

“There is a need to rehabilitate the coastal area since some of the previously planted mangrove saplings have been swept by the water,” said Tomongtong village chief Haydiginia Bendicion. (PNA/PN)
