BACOLOD City – Two locally stranded individuals (LSIs) escaped from a quarantine facility in Talisay City, Negros Occidental over the weekend.
In a Facebook post, Mayor Neil Lizares said the LSIs escaped through the facility’s backwall.
“They evaded the police only because they wanted to buy alcoholic drinks. Sadly, it is clear that they did not think of the possibility of infecting other people [if they are positive for coronavirus disease 2019],” an incensed Lizares pointed out.
The escapees were immediately apprehended, according to Lizares. They were subjected to confirmatory swab tests and subsequently turned out negative for the viral illness.
“Regardless, their irresponsibility should not be justified nor tolerated. This must be meted with proper legal sanctions,” Lizares said. Lizares expressed his dismay over the incident
“The panic and worry that this incident brought should not be forgotten. This should be a wakeup call to all who continue to violate the rules set forth by the government for our safety,” he added.
Lizares called on his constituents to cooperate.
“We cannot guard each and every Talisaynon in their actions. Instead, we ask for your cooperation,” he said.
Lizares reminded Talisaynons to observe social distancing, wearing of face masks, frequent handwashing and other health protocols./PN
