2 village officials shot in Zarraga

ILOILO City – Four people including two village officials were shot after breaking up a fight in Barangay Tubigan, Zarraga, Iloilo.

Among them were Barangay Captain Melanie Duma-up, 45, and Barangay Kagawad Hermelita Dogomeo, 55.

Police identified the shooter as Nicholas Abosada.

Duma-up was hit on the back and left arm. She was confined in the West Visayas State University Medical Center in Jaro district.

Dogomeo and 22-year-old daughter Krystal Joy were taken to the Iloilo Mission Hospital, also in Jaro. They sustained gunshot wounds on their backs.

Another wounded – Ace Gallego, 23, of Barangay Malusgod, Pototan town – was brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao. He was hit on the chest and left palm.

The four victims were on their way home when attacked at around 9 p.m. on Friday, July 13.

Abosada, who was drunk at the time, used a 12-gauge shotgun, police investigation showed.

Prior to the shooting, the victims responded to a fight between Abosada and Dogomeo’s son Ken during a drinking binge at a birthday celebration, police said.

On their way home, the victims came across the already armed Abosada. Scared, they ran to escape but Abosada fired at them, said Senior Police Officer 4 Rey Pueyo, Zarraga police head.

Gallego tried to disarm the suspect but he was shot as well.

Abosada was arrested and detained at the Zarraga police station.

He faces four counts of frustrated murder charges, police said./PN
