ILOILO City – Two members of the New People’s Army who are facing a string of criminal cases were recently arrested.
The Tracker Team of Tubungan Police Station, together with the personnel of the 2nd Mobile Platoon and 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company, collared a certain “Carlos” or “Ka Lex” at 7:55 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11.
Authorities served an arrest warrant for the crime of attempted murder with a recommended bail of P120,000 for his temporary liberty.
The attempted murder case transpired on Sept. 23, 2019, around 8 a.m., in Barangay Ongyod, Miag-ao, Iloilo during a strike operation by government forces under the 3rd Infantry Division.
They encountered approximately 30 rebels under SDG Suyak Platoon, Southern Front, KR-Panay, led by “Ka Lex.”
He was the No. 3 wanted person in Iloilo province and No. 1 in the municipality of Tubungan.
“He was the suspect in various crimes, pero isa pa lang na warrant ang lumabas. His arrest was part of our campaign against insurgency,” said Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor, Police Regional Office 6 director.
Carlos was detained at Tubungan Police Station.
On the other hand, on Friday, Jan. 12, “Ka Joe,” a former rebel member, surrendered himself to the police of Tapaz Police Station after seeing his arrest warrants for the crime of three counts of rebellion and murder with the use of an unlicensed firearm.
“Ka Joe,” a former finance officer of the Central Front Committee, KR-Panay, operating under Ka Lloyd from 1980 to 2015, expressed his intention to withdraw support from the rebels.
The bail recommended for the three counts of rebellion was set at P40,000 each, while no bail has been recommended for his murder with the use of an unlicensed firearm charge.
