
IBAJAY, Aklan – Two fires broke out here, 39 kilometers west of the capital town of Kalibo.
Fire gutted a two-storey ancestral house along Sta. Rita Street in Barangay Poblacion, and partially burned an adjacent two-storey house past 6 p.m. on June 11.
Arson investigator Fire Officer 2 Cristian John Calzado said they responded to a fire call at around 6:18 p.m. in Barangay Poblacion.
Firefighters of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Nabas, Makato and Tangalan towns also responded after the blaze was raised to second alarm.
A 66-year old woman sustained second-degree burns on both hands, nose, left shoulder and left foot. She was brought to the Ibajay District Hospital for treatment.
BFP-Ibajay declared a fire out at 8:23 p.m. The initial damage to property reached P750,000.
The other fire also totally burned a one-storey house made of light materials in Sitio Nasunugan, Barangay San Jose, about 12 kilometers away from BFP-Ibajay.
BFP-Ibajay received a fire call at 1:57 p.m. on Saturday and immediately responded to the scene.
“Ang nasunog na bahay ay pag-aari ni Maritess Albino. Nag-iisa siya sa bahay nang mangyari ang sunog. Habang nagluluto siya para sa tanghalian, iniwan niya ito at pumunta sa kapitbahay dahil tumawag ang kanyang anak sa cellphone,” Calzado said.
The estimated damage to property caused by the fire in San Jose was estimated at P50,000.
There were no casualties in the two fire incidents./PN
