ILOILO City – Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 6 (CIDG-6) arrested two women for alleged child trafficking at 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday in Barangay Boulevard, Molo district here.
Suspects Ana Agustin, 53, and Edelyn Pendon, 29, both residents of the said village, were taken to the Molo Police Station.
According to Major Jess Baylon of CIDG-6, they received information two months ago about the rampant selling of newly born infants in Molo.
“Si Agustin ang naga-act as middle woman sang transaction from lying-in hospitals kag sa prospect buyers. May personnel sa mga lying-in hospitals na naga-contact kay Agustin para mangita buyer kag kun matigayon ang baklanay may share ang hospital kag ang biological parents. Amo ina ang modus operandi nila,” Baylon told Panay News.
He said that before the entrapment operation, they told Agustin a buyer was willing to pay P40,000 for the five-day-old baby boy of Pendon.
Baylon also believed that the two had already sold infants before their arrest.
“Si Agustin ang naga-receive sang money kag ara man si Pendon. Sa P40,000, ang P7,000 will go to the personnel of the lying-in hospital and the P25,000 sa kay Pendon kag ang bilin kay Agustin,” Baylon added
The suspects will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003./PN
