2 women rebels yield after Janiuay encounter

ILOILO – Two women New People’s Army (NPA) rebels involved in two recent clashes with government troops in Janiuay town surrendered to the Philippine Army.

“JL” and “Alexa”, members of the NPA’s Baloy Platoon, Central Front, Komiteng-Rehiyon Panay, voluntarily turned themselves in to the Army on Aug. 29.

They participated in skirmishes with the 12th Infantry Battalion (12IB) on Aug. 26 in Barangay Panuran, Janiuay and on Aug. 28 in Barangay Aglobong, still in Janiuay.

“Their surrender was facilitated by a barangay kagawad who brought them to the headquarters of the 12IB in Calinog town. Their comrades abandoned them after recent armed engagements, said Major Cenon Pancito III, spokesperson of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID).

Brigadier General Marion Sison, commander of the 301st Infantry Brigade (301IB), said the armed engagements have caused demoralization within the ranks of the rebels.

Sison lauded the 12IB, which is under the 301IB, for successful combat operations that he said put intense pressure on the NPA

“There will be no letup in our hunt for these communist terrorists. Your Army in Panay and Guimaras islands will relentlessly pursue these enemies of the state to prevent them from sowing terror in communities and save our youth from getting involved in senseless bloody armed struggle,” Sison said./PN
